August Bank Holiday, Carshalton Park

12:45pm – Petra Nouvelle Jazz Band – played in 2017

Petra Nouvelle Jazz BandAs two musicians involved in the London jazz scene, Petra and Owen wanted to share their experience of jazz, swing and blues with their audience, and that’s how Petra Nouvelle Jazz Band was born. Owen, who is the band`s bass player, brings many years of experience as a bassist on both Electric, Double Bass & Electric Upright Basses. He has previously worked with a many known and a few less known, but equally skilled artists and musicians, as a rhythm section player. Over the years Owen has performed at many clubs, venues and quite a few of the popular festivals both nationally & internationally, crossing a wide variety of genres whilst still retaining a feel and passion for playing Jazz and Blues based music. As a live band, they aim to provide good music & entertainment at all of their performances, whether performing in a large venue or at a small event. They are able to tailor the group to suit a variety of occasions when necessary. As a group of musicians, they have all been influenced by many of the artists who have come before them & some of those names are still around to this day. In the world of Jazz music & other genres, names like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and contemporary performers such as Melody Gardot, Diana Krall all come to mind. There’s a famous line often attributed to Thelonious Monk: “Talking about music is like dancing about architecture.” Writing about it isn’t any easier therefore it is highly recommended to have a listen to Petra`s voice instead as it is so easy to fall in love with. Her voice is pristine yet telegraphs great wisdom and experience – it’s almost like hearing the singing of a 70-year-old woman who’s been on vocal rest for the past five decades. It is deep, soulful, strong and sultry.

Petra Nouvelle Jazz Band`s repertoire draws primarily on the songs of the Female Goddesses of Jazz.
